VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) promotes the smoothness and efficiency of vessel traffic while preventing accidents. Kvarken Ports has entered into a cooperation agreement for vessel traffic services in maritime traffic management, and all vessels over 24 meters in length are required to participate in the service. Vessel traffic services in the waters under the control of the Port of Vaasa are provided by Vessel Traffic Services Finland Ltd.

The Port of Vaasa operates under a departure clearance procedure, meaning that vessels must submit a departure notification to VTS to obtain clearance. The departure clearance issued by VTS is valid for 20 minutes. Additionally, vessels operating on a scheduled basis have priority over other traffic.

West Coast VTS provides vessel traffic services at the Port of Vaasa. At least one hour before departure or arrival, a notification must also be made to port control (040-5672975) to arrange the mooring and unmooring of the vessel.
